ISANGO | Official Selection at The African Audiovisual and Film Schools Festival

Brent Quinn, Head of Film, (AFDA JHB 2016) and Gina Bonmariage, Dean, AFDA Cape Town, represented AFDA at a think tank in Rabat and Marrakesh aimed at the formation of a Pan African Student Film festival. The Moroccan Communication Ministry and two top North African Film schools launched the initiative, ISMAC in Rabat and ESAV in Marrakesh. This year of the festival sees Isango as part of the 

official selection.

INCURABLE | Official Selection for the CILECT Prize 2017

It was announced that Incurable will be the official entry for AFDA at this year's CILECT Prize. Therefore, The Veritas Project's latest production will form part of this international competition competing against numerous other students across the globe.

​

The CILECT Prize is the first ever award bestowed to a student film not by whatever number of jury members but by the whole community of CILECT Full Member Schools. By 2016 this includes 160 institutions from 60 countries. In most cases schools choose to include in the voting panels students, professors and staff accounting to hundreds of members in each panel.

​

The CILECT Prize was founded in 2005 at the proposal of the (then) Vice-President Conferences and Festivals Prof. Dr. Stanislav Semerdjiev, Rector of the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts (NATFA), Sofia, Bulgaria. It appeared as a result of his long-term research on world student festival activities and after a thorough survey between all CILECT Full Member Schools on the eventual importance of such a competition.

​

The formal ceremony of presenting the award is usually held at the annual Conferences of CILECT. The first such ceremony took place at ECAM, Madrid, SPAIN on 21 November 2006 and honored the outstanding student film achievements of the 2004/2005 and 2005/2006 school years.

INCURABLE | Official Entry Candidate for the STUDENT ACADEMY AWARDS 2017

AFDA, The South African School of Motion Picture Medium and Live Performance, has announced that out of all the Graduate Productions (Undergraduate and Postgraduate) across their five campuses, that Incurable will be their official entry in this year's Student Academy Awards.

​

The Student Academy Awards is an international student film competition conducted by the Academy and the Academy Foundation. Each year over 1700 college and university film students from all over the world compete for awards and cash grants, with films being judged in seven categories, four domestic school categories (Animation, Documentary, Narrative and Alternative) and three international school categories (Animation, Documentary and Narrative). The presentation ceremony is a popular event that is annually attended by a capacity audience in the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater.

​

The 44th Student Academy Awards presentation will be held on Thursday, October 12 2017, at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theatre in Beverly Hills.

INCURABLE | Official Selection at the ECRANS NOIRS FILM FESTIVAL

Incurable has been selected to be a part of the Ecrans Noirs Film Festival's 21st annual event in Yaoundé, Cameroon. The festival will take place from the 15th of July to the 22nd. Incurable, along with Kalushi, a feature film, are the only two South African films chosen to be a part of this festival in 2017.

​

The Festival was founded in 1997 by the association Ecrans Noirs, the Black Screen Festival aims to promote and enhance the cinemas of Africa and the Black World. In 2008, it became a competitive festival highlighting numerous awards and talents; It is one of the unavoidable annual meetings of the 7th art in Central Africa. 


It is also the opportunity for amateurs and professionals of the 7th art to reconnect with the film, to meet actors and directors stars of the continent, enrich themselves with all the related activities developed outside the screening rooms (training workshops, Professional meetings and other cultural activities that will take place in the Festival village in Yaoundé.

INCURABLE | Official Selection at the KLEINKAAP SHORT FILM FESTIVAL

It has been announced that Incurable, alongside 9 other AFDA short films, will partake in this year's Kleinkaaap Short Film Festival hosted at the Kleinkaap Boutique Hotel, by Twin Hearts Productionsfrom the 28th to the 30th of July.  This is the festival second year in Centurion, South Africa; a vibrant city nestled minutes between Johannesburg and Pretoria. 

 

KSFF is a gateway for audiences to unearth the real world of film that occurs beyond regular film exhibitions. KSFF mainly supports outstanding and creative stories that have not received deserved exposure in South Africa. KSFF considers narrative, documentary and animated short films (30 min and less), and in multiple genres from around the world.

INCURABLE | NOMINEE for Best Student Film at the 12th Annual SAFTA's

The South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs), managed under the custodianship of the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF), an agency of the Department of Arts and Culture, announced the nominees of the 12th Annual South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAS 12) at Inanda Club on Friday, 2nd February 2018.

​

Judging is the backbone of the SAFTAs and it is through the hard work of the 262 judges under the guidance of two overall judging chairpersons, Firdoze Bulbulia and Thembi Mtshali-Jones that we have reached this milestone. The SAFTAs committee, consisting of the NFVF, CCISFA, SASFED, eTV, M-Net, SABC and StarSat extends gratitude to the judges for their dedication and willingness to contribute towards making the awards world class.

 

 “I would like to congratulate all the nominees for this achievement, reaching this stage from 348 entries is no small feat as the quality of entries left judges deliberating well after midnight each night, deciding on their top 3 nominees for each category. I encourage the industry to continue to produce exceptional productions and to strive for excellence so that these awards can get better each year. I would also like to wish all the nominees the best of luck and we will continue to celebrate you,’’ said NFVF CEO, Zama Mkosi.

Winners to be announced over the weekend of the 22 - 24th of March at a Gala event at Sun City.

INCURABLE | WINNER of the Lunartis Audience Award at Video Art Association

During the Video Art Association VIDEOMEDEJA Festival in Serbia, Incurable had bagged the prestigious Lunartis Audience Award, after being viewed and voted one by countless of festival goers.  

​

International Video Festival VIDEOMEDEJA is basic activity of the Video Art Association VIDEOMEDEJA. This is an annual non-profit event lasting for a few days. Festival consists of the competitive program and various accompanying programs which, depending on the current productions and conception, happens on the different locations in Novi Sad and elsewhere.

​

As part of the program, festival focuses on art projects that combine images and sound, advanced communication, objects, in a symbiotic or avant-garde style; of videos, documentaries and short films, digital animation, media installations, interventions in the exhibition area, interactive and robotic objects, url projects, open source applications, live audiovisual performances, electronic music, advanced technologies in artistic practice.

​

All works within festival categories produced in last 2 years could be nominated for the competitive selection, which is curated by Selection Committee. All the applicants have to submit the entry form.

International Jury selects the best works for the following awards:
 - Sphinx Award is for the best Video.
 - Bogdanka Poznanovic Award is for the best Media Installation, Live piece, Software, URL.
 - Lunartis Award is for the best graduate film

​

Depending on the design of the program sometimes there’s Audience Award. Renowned artists, prominent critics, theoreticians, producers, distributors and journalists from all over the world are regular guests of the Festival. The festival is being distributed and promoted in the form of presentations, promotional catalogs, Internet, different mass media in Serbia and abroad.
