MEET THE CREW

Darren Parker graduated with cum laude at the end of 2015 with a B.A. degree in film, having majored in Film Directing and Screenwriting. This is Darren’s second Bachelor’s degree, having graduated from the University of Pretoria in 2006 with a B.Com in Business Management. He is currently completing his Honours degree at AFDA.

He then spent some years as a journalist, and a magazine editor for reputable trade publishing companies in Johannesburg. However, a side career in music drew Darren ever closer to the arts. From 2001 to 2009, he composed and co-produced several hit songs and albums for local South African artists such JubJub, Arde, Mean Mr Mustard, One80, Karen Micaela and CJay. 

However, after years of practicing the art of writing English as well as music, Darren sought to fulfill his lifelong dream of combining them into one art form - Film. Since 2013, Darren has: written, co-produced, directed, edited and scored a national TV advert for Tiger Brands and has written and/or directed several well-received short films and documentaries.

ANNELIZE ERASMUS

ACTRESS

Annelize Erasmus is a University of the Free State Drama and Theatre Arts graduate, from Bloemfontein. She is currently busy with her Honours degree in Live Performance at AFDA Johannesburg. She has been involved in professional theatre productions, such as: Don Juan onder die Boere, Kom Môre Terug and Curl up & dye.

 

This up and coming actress was part of productions in other Festivals including: Grahamstown National Arts Festival, Vrystaat Kunstefees, AFDA Experimental Festival and Macufe Festival. She also performed, wrote and directed various student productions throughout her studies. Her technical work includes; Stage managing, Lighting Technician, Stage Hand/ASM and Ushering at the Vryfees festival (2013) and at the Wynand Moutoun Theatre for various shows throughout her studies. She also wrote her first professional theatre piece 'Kom Terug Môre, Come Back Tomorrow, Ubobuya Ngomso' which debuted at the Free State Arts Festival in 2016.

 

She was also part of student short films, 'I Do';, and 'Incurable' and a professional short film 'Starry Night'. Annelize is a young ambitious artist with an inner drive that is hard to miss. She is an energy to be recon with. She believes in being a multi- experienced artist, meaning she wants to aspire in both screen -and stage -acting. She is willing to work extremely hard to achieve her goals and is determined to make her mark in the industry.

Karien van Biljon is a reliable person in her profession, not only for her talent but her work ethic. It is her ambition, to always find innovative ways to advance her skill set in editing, learning new ways to work with aproduction crew, and to enrich the South African Film and Television Industry with her contribution.

She strives to be a hard worker in every aspect she is involved with, from editing to management. Karien has been the Head of Post-Production for her year group at AFDA for 3 years and was awarded the Valedictorian position when graduating her Bachelor of Arts in Motion Picture in 2015.

DELISA GOVENDER

VISUAL EFFECTS ARTIST

Delisa Govender is an aspiring VFX artist with ±5 years of experience in her field. She has made the impossible possible countless of times through the use of After Effects, Maya, Boujou, RealFlow and occasionally: Photoshop. From rotoscoping men digging (in front of 3D tombstones) to simulating and animating a water body, Delisa has continued to push her limits and learn new techniques.

 

She has worked on 2 feature films, a TV series, over 25 short films, a documentary as well as numerous adverts as a VFX generalist. She is currently studying for her BA in Honours (Motion picture medium) at the African Film and Drama Academy (AFDA Johannesburg campus) with the hopes of gaining additional skills in programming.

IVAN WELKER

MUSIC COMPOSER

Ivan Welker is a young and talented Film Composer with a diversity of styles and genre's under his belt. He has graduated with a B.A Degree in film and has now completed his Honours degree. Ivan is top of his class and an award winner for best composer and score at AFDA. Dedicating his life to composing, he has worked on feature films along side industry professionals to the likes of Geo Höhn, Jim Patrick, Christopher Lee Dos Santos as well Chris Piggins.

 

Ivan, coming from a non musical background can be expressed as a composer who feels and understands music through emotion rather than having a strict theoretical formula. He has produced numerous singles that have been played on Yfm and Kaya FM and has also made his mark in the DJ scene, winning House Hold Funk's DJ competition, having played along side Fresh, Euphonik, Kent, Switch and many more. He is ambitious, determined and open minded, which makes him a pleasure to work with in a creative space. His attitude is firm, respectful and he aligns himself correct to the task at hand.

MARNUS MARITZ

Marnus Maritz is a dedicated and hard worker. At the age of 24 he owns his own construction company which he started in his first year at Afda while studying full time. However his passion is film, but more importantly Colour Grading.

His passion for colour has motivated him with all of his projects. "Imagine a world without colour, how boring!" - One of Marnus's favorite statements. This statement is also motivation for Marnus to create a new "world" - so that the audience can have a more pleasurable viewing experience - EVERYTIME. 

​

He has colour graded films including the award winning Honours film of 2014 "The Act" - when he was only in his 2nd year of study.  He has also Grades an award winning short film "The Suit " by Jarred Coetsee, which has travelled the world taking many awards such as the audience award at the Snit Film Festival. He has recently shot and edited a music video for the well known Television personality and singer, song writer Coenie De Villiers and a hip hop artist from the Cape, Hemelbesem. Marnus was also interviewed by Pasella for taking on this project and how he felt have the honour of working with a legend like Coenie De Villiers.

Marnus has done 3 Internships where he shadows well known colourists at companies like Refinery, Ludas Post Productions and Bladeworks Post Productions. Marnus says that he learn a lot about the craft of colour grading by well known Colourist Craig Simonetti. Marnus also shadowed a Digital Imaging Technician named Richard Muller on a Niell Blomkamp set where they shot a pilot for a new Series that is based in Johannesburg.

When he gets a project he puts his heart into his work, like everything else he does, and only strives for the best. By the end of 2016 Marnus will be the first Colourist in the country with an BA Honours for Motion Picture majoring in Data Management and Colour Grading. Marnus dreams to one day own his own Colour Grading Company where he will be known for his work ethic, wisdom and for how he crafts colour to enhance each project he lays his hands on. 

Kristie is an emerging film producer with a passion for humanity projects. Her focus is on the upliftment and betterment of the community around her with special dedication to women and children. She has produced several short films, the most successful of which won an award during the Cannes Film Festival.

 

Kristie is currently completing her Honours Degree at AFDA Film School after completing her BA in Motion Picture and Film (Directing and Writing majors). She switched her focus to Producing for her final year after successfully completing several projects as a producer concurrently with her directing and writing projects. This dual approach to education is not her first: Kristie completed both her South African Matriculation as well as her cambridge A-levels running concurrently as well (and managed to matriculate top of her class with 5 distinctions).

 

While Kristie’s inspiration for pursuing a career in film was inspired by theatre, her continued passion is fed by the real-world difference she can make through the execution of strong minded, honest and gripping films.

Tamsyn completed her BA in Motion Picture in 2015 at AFDA Johannesburg Film School and returned this year to complete her Honours degree as a Costume, Make-Up and Styling Major. She has worked on numerous successful undergrad and industry projects and recently attended additional courses to widen her skills base within the industry.

Tamsyn has a keen interest for prosthetics and is dedicated to her craft. Known for working extended hours she takes great pride in her ability to add her personal creative flair to all the projects she is involved in.

JASMINE CORYNDON-BAKER

Jasmine is currently completing her undergraduate degree: BA in Cinematography at AFDA Johannesburg Film School. She came on to assist The Veritas Project during the filming of The Invisible People as 1st AC and we welcomed her back as our Director of Photography for the filming of Incurable. 

 

Jasmine is currently focused on completing her third year graduation projects which will also show during the AFDA Graduation Film festival.
